Vinyldithiins, garlic extract used in dietary supplements

Vinyldithiins molecules.

The vinyldithiins (2-vinyl-4H-1,3-dithiin and 3-vinyl-4H-1,2-dithiin) represent the main constituents of Regulid, a dietary supplement that stabilizes weight after a diet and also helps in the management of metabolic syndrome. Vinyldithiins are potent antithrombotic agents [1].

Using a modified liver homogenate, Sendl [2] demonstrated that garlic may also reduce serum cholesterol levels primarily by inhibiting cholesterol synthesis and that this effect arises from a mixture of multiple compounds, ajoene and dithiins.

The activity of 1,2-vinyldithiin in Regulid has been evaluated by the french INSERM "Nutrition and Obesity Laboratory" under the direction of Pr Karine Clément. It was demonstrated that 1,2-vinyldithiin, a garlic-derived organosulfur, has anti-adipogenic and anti-inflammatory actions on human preadipocytes [3].

Vinyldithiins have natural anti adipogenic properties.

1,2-vinyldithiin demonstrated an anti-inflammatory activity on IL-6 and MCP1 chemokine production (-28% and –25% respectively).

Vinyldithiins have anti-inflammatory properties.
